President and CEO
Sergio Cardona graduated from Merrimack College in Massachusetts with a degree in Electrical Engineering. After a successful career at Raytheon and M/A-COM for over 17 years, in 2010, he founded nMode Solutions, Inc., focused on developing innovative technology solutions. One of nMode’s efforts was the startup and launch of Triton Microsystems, which was acquired by a $700M+ global manufacturer of electronics.
Subsequent to the buyout, Mr. Cardona acquired Electronic Design and Development, Inc. (ED2), a Florida firm focused on the design and development of specialized Marine time communications; Mr. Cardona refocused the company and domesticated it to Arizona. He leads a team of world-class industry experts in the development of 5G wireless communications technology.
Mr. Cardona has been described as ‘a talented and innovative technologist in the RF & Microwave product development arena;’ his expertise includes leading-edge technology in sensors, photonics, RF and radar. He has received many recognitions, ranging from Excellence in Engineering (2006) and Excellence in Leadership award (2009), among many more. Mr. Cardona has belts in Design for Six Sigma, lean manufacturing, and value-add engineering. Mr. Cardona has led multi-discipline teams and has exhaustive leadership experience.
He is on the Board of Directors of the Catholic Foundation for the Diocese of Tucson, and has been recognized as a philanthropist. Mr. Cardona and his wife spend all their free time focused on increasing awareness of the value of family. He and his wife represent a national organization as Arizona delegates; they have a young son.
Benjamin (Ben) Jones graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in Business and subsequently earned an MBA from the University of Utah. He has over 25 years’ experience as a financial executive spanning several industries, including Technology, Aerospace, Manufacturing, Consumer Products, Transportation Logistics, and Food Processing. He has held leadership roles within large multi-national companies, Unilever and America Airlines, and mid-tier companies, Pegasus Aviation, and Samtec Inc. Over the past 10+ years, Mr. Jones has held CFO positions in several small and start-up companies and has extensive experience in initial company setup, development, growth and company sale. His experience in companies of various sizes, at different growth stages, and across several industries, has allowed him a unique insight into strategy, operations, and finance.
Mr. Jones is an accomplished athlete and automobile enthusiast. He supports the Special Olympics and is active in his community.
Kevin Patrick graduated from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, with a degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering. His 40+ year career in RF and Microwave electronics started at Honeywell Avionics Division and has subsequently included important contributions to the operations of Magnavox Industrial Electronics Division, Hughes Aircraft Systems, and Raytheon Missile Systems. Kevin is an expert in high power microwave transmitter design and receiver design. He is also an expert in microwave filter design; he holds several microwave filter design patents.
Mr. Patrick and his wife actively participate in several faith-based activities, including the Knights of Columbus through which he assists with many community activities and special projects in the Tucson, AZ area.
Ernie Nedder built a career across a wide cross section of industries. After obtaining BA and STB degrees, he earned dual Masters’ degrees from Boston College and Emmanuel College in Boston, MA, and pursued additional educational opportunities at Wharton School of Finance, University of Iowa, and the University of Chicago.
He was an elementary and high school teacher in Boston, then spent two and a half decades building up one of the top Catholic Publishing Companies in the U.S. He subsequently established a long-tenured consulting practice serving clients in industries including technology, publishing, distribution, and several others, and served on the Board of Directors of the William C. Brown Companies.
Ernie has a strong commitment to service, and has been Interim Chancellor for the Diocese of Tucson, as well as Interim Director of the Catholic Foundation, leading the Diocese’s fundraising efforts. He has also given his time and talents to diverse groups including the Microbusiness Advancement Center; Chambers of Commerce in Tucson, AZ, and Dubuque, IA; Tucson Technology Incubator; Mercy Hospital; and numerous faith-based organizations in the U.S. and Canada.
Joel Blumke holds both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Electrical Engineering from California State University, Northridge. His distinguished 34-year career started at Hughes Aircraft’s Missile Systems Division, then continued with Raytheon Missile Systems after Raytheon purchased Hughes in 1997. He is a world-renowned expert in developing state-of-the-art, best in class, low noise RF/Microwave signal sources, with additional expertise in several technical specialties. He has designed, analyzed and implemented RF systems in X, Ka and W bands with state-of-the-art performance; he is also experienced in identification and resolution of complex RF system issues for high performance RF systems. Mr. Blumke has also recently focused on the design, marketing, and test development of a compact wireless sensor module for use in the IoT market.
Mr. Blumke enjoys mentoring junior engineers; he has written tutorials and presented in many knowledge exchange forums. He is a Trustee of Love Divine Fellowship and is active in the church music ministry. He and his wife have two grown children and have lived in Tucson, AZ, for 25 years.
Ricardo Platt graduated from The University of Arizona with a degree in Civil Engineering, and from Thunderbird, the American Graduate School of International Management with a Master’s in International Management. After working for large construction companies with international operations, his entrepreneurial spirit led him into the development and management of complex, multi-location projects with international scope. His professional trajectory includes experience across several industries inside and outside the U.S.; these include Real Estate, General and Specialty Construction, Risk Management and Insurance, Environmental Remediation, Mining, utility-scale Water Desalination, Airline Services, fabrication of wood and fiberglass products, and Agribusiness.
Mr. Platt is a member of the Tucson Airport Authority; the Mountain Oyster Club, serving twice on its Board; and Los Charros del Desierto, all in Tucson. He served on the Board of Advisors for the Sonora, Mexico chapter of the Red Cross, and on the Board of Patrons for the Cathedral of Hermosillo, Sonora. He is a cancer survivor and supporter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, as well as an accomplished musician and an avid equestrian. He and his wife have four children.
